Interlink
is once again leading the way in our industry. This time with
the latest enhancement to our data centre infrastructure.
We have upgraded our extended power by installing the very latest in power management
solutions available from American Power Conversion APC.
We now not only have a better and more reliable solution
for our extended run power, but the new infrastructure is based on
leading-edge environmentally friendly technology.
Hydrogen Fuel
Cell technology:
We took advantage of APC’s most recent addition to their InfraStruXure® extended
run architecture, Hydrogen Fuel Cell technology. In addition to providing a scalable
and reliable power source this solution is also environmentally friendly using ‘green’ hydrogen
fuel cells for the power generation. Hydrogen fuel cells use hydrogen gas and
oxygen from the air to generate power. The only byproducts to this process are
clean water and heat with no harmful emissions. We believe that we are the first
and, to date. the only ISP in the world to adopt this green technology. |

The Need:
As our business grew so did our demand for power
and extend run power. In
order to guarantee that our power demands were met we had to upgrade
our backup power source. Interlink faced a number of challenges
in upgrading the extended run power to our data centre as it is situated
on the fifth floor of an office tower in downtown Toronto. The
structure of our building made it very difficult to use the standard
battery/generator solution.
The Idea:
Our technicians had heard of the use fuel cells
in power generation solutions and decided to investigate. Our
research revealed that there was a substantial amount of development
work being done in the area of fuel cell technology specifically
with extended run power requirements. In fact there was company that
had solution available.
The Solution:
As a result of this research, Interlink entered
an agreement with APC and Hydrogenics, manufacturer of the fuel cell,
to purchase this leading edge extended run power solution, the first
installation of its kind in North America. Much planning and design went
into this solution to ensure that we had a reliable and scalable
power source to meet the demands of our growing datacentre. This
new power infrastructure has been installed and running in our
datacentre since July of this year.
We pride ourselves on using innovation to deliver
a competitive edge that benefits our customers.
We needed a backup power system with an extended run-time that would
work within our existing building structure.
We remained true to our core ideals in adopting an innovative, reliable
solution that is based on leading edge, environmentally friendly
technology. |
